Cigarettes and Tobacco Products
It is an offence to sell these to anybody under 18 years. It's is also an offence to knowingly sell them to a person 18 or over who is
intending to supply them to a person under 18. Cigarettes must be sold in their original packaging and must not be split and sold as a separate item.

Fireworks
Fireworks must be sold in their original packaging, which includes warnings, and should not be split into single items.
Fireworks (including hand held sparklers) cannot be sold to anyone under18. Other explosive devices such as caps, throw-downs, party poppers, table bombs, novelty matches, and serpents cannot be sold to anyone under 16.

Video Recordings (DVDs, Videos, Games)
It is an offence to sell or hire these to a person who has not attained the age specified in the rating certificate which may be 12, 15 or 18.

Intoxicating Substances
Solvents include: lighter fuel/fluid, solvent based glues and adhesives, aerosols, nail varnish remover, anti-freeze and typewriter
correction fluid. It is an offence to supply these to a person under 18 if you know or believe that they are likely to inhale the substance
to achieve intoxication.

Butane Gas/Fluid Cigarette Lighter Refills
It is an offence to supply any cigarette lighter refill canister containing butane or substance with butane as a constituent part to anyone
under 18

National Lottery
It is an offence to sell a lottery ticket or instant win scratch card to a person under 16.

Alcohol
It is an offence to sell alcohol to a person under 18.

Liqueur Chocolates
It is an offence to supply liqueur chocolates to anyone under 16.

Offensive Weapons
It is an offence to sell knives including kitchen knives, utility knives, axes and razor blades to anyone under 16.

Gambling Industry

Slot machines.

There are three types:

Fruit machines;

With a relatively small cash/token payout; these have no legal minimum age restriction, though many operators follow a voluntary code
to partially or totally exclude those under 16 or 18;

All-cash payout fruit machines;

These are age restricted and located in arcades, pubs, betting offices etc;

Jackpot machines;

These have a much bigger payout and are restricted to over 18's by law.

Betting, On or Off Course.

It is illegal to allow anyone under 18 to place a bet or to enter inside a betting shop. If this were to happen, the betting shop owner
and not the under-age gambler would be prosecuted.

Casinos & Bingo.

It is illegal to gamble at a casino or play bingo at a licensed bingo club under the age of 18. In order to do so, you must be a club member.

You can leave school (until 2013 from which date the leaving age will be raised to 18).
You can choose your own doctor.
You can claim social security benefit.
You can work full time.
You can leave home with your parents' consent.
You can get married with one parents' consent.
You can drink wine or beer with a meal in a restaurant.
You can hold a licence to drive a moped
You can buy a lottery ticket

At age 17:
You can hold a licence to drive any vehicle except certain heavy ones.
You can be sent to prison.
You can engage in street trading.
You can purchase an air rifle.
You can leave home without your parents' consent.

At age 18:
You can appear before adult courts.
You can get married without your parents' consent.
You can vote
You can act as executor of a person's will.
You can make a will.
You can see or buy an 18 Certificate film.
You can bet.
You can change your name.
You can apply for a passport.
You can buy & sell goods
You can own houses and land
You can apply for a mortgage
You can sue and be sued
You can go abroad to sing, play or perform professionally
You can sit on a jury
You can be a blood donor
You can buy alcohol
You can drink alcohol in a pub.
You can work in a bar of licensed premises.

At age 21:
You can stand in a parliamentary or local election.
You can drive any mechanically propelled vehicle.
You can hold a licence to sell alcohol.
You can adopt a child.
